Divorce papers reveal Hogan finances, spending

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Hulk Hogan and his wife are wrangling over how much money the celebrity wrestler is worth - and how much they each spend a month - according to financial affidavits filed in divorce court near Tampa.
Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, claims his net worth is $32 million; his wife, Terry, claims it's $26.7 million.

The affidavits also lay out their spending habits.

Linda Bollea spends $7,000 on clothing, another $7,500 on maid service and about $1,700 on jewelry. That's each month.

Hogan also reports impressive monthly expenses, but none greater than the $38,000 he spends on legal fees.

Meanwhile, their son Nick is serving an eight-month jail sentence for causing a traffic crash that left a passenger permanently disabled.

More than 40 million people see Palin speech

NEW YORK (AP) -- Barack Obama apparently isn't the only "rock star" in presidential politics this year.

After days of intense media coverage about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's qualifications, more than 40 million Americans tuned in Wednesday to see for themselves what they thought of her.

The huge audience for Palin's acceptance speech rivaled that for Obama's address at the Democratic National Convention six days earlier, and set a tough standard for the top of her own ticket. John McCain was to accept the GOP presidential nomination on Thursday.

The first two days of the GOP convention essentially served as a build-up for Palin. The Alaska governor hadn't spoken publicly since McCain selected her for the ticket last Friday, as a series of stories circulated questioning whether McCain had properly vetted her.

Her poised speech, primarily going after Obama and touting McCain's case for the presidency, was gushed over by many analysts.

An audience of 37.2 million people watched Palin on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC, Nielsen Media Research said Thursday. PBS estimated its audience at 3.9 million, based on a less reliable sample of several big cities. Nielsen does not count the audience for C-SPAN, which also showed the speech.

Last week, Nielsen said 38.4 million people watched Obama speak at a Denver stadium on the six commercial networks, along with BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo - four networks that didn't cover Palin's speech. PBS added an estimated 4 million to that total.

Nearly 2 million more women were watching Palin than men, Nielsen said.

Viewers were far more interested in Palin than Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden. Biden's speech to Democrats last week was seen by an estimated 24 million people.

The audiences for the Obama and Palin speeches were bigger than the ones this year for the Academy Awards, the finale of "American Idol" or the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing.

Nearly 120 million Americans voted in the 2004 presidential election and numbers could be higher this year because of young and minority voters attracted to Obama, and renewed enthusiasm among Republicans for their ticket.

Fox News Channel led the way Wednesday, with 9.2 million people watching Palin's speech on the cable channel. It was the third-largest audience in its history, behind only President Bush's speech on Iraq in March 2003 and a Bush-Kerry presidential debate in 2004.

For each night of the GOP convention so far, Fox's audience has been bigger than any of the other cable or broadcast networks. That duplicates a feat accomplished at the 2004 Republican convention for Fox, the first time a cable network had outdrawn broadcasters for a major news event.

NBC had 7.7 million viewers for Palin's speech, followed in order by CNN, ABC, CBS and MSNBC, Nielsen said.

Fashion store sues Winfrey's mom for unpaid bill

MILWAUKEE (AP) --  A high-end clothing store in Brookfield, Wisconsin, is suing Oprah Winfrey's mother for failing to pay her bill.

The civil complaint says Vernita Lee of Milwaukee owed Valentina nearly $156,000 for purchases and interest as of July 1st and has failed to make the monthly minimum payment of $2,000.

Store attorney Joseph Niebler Sr. says his client tried to resolve the matter with Lee before filing the lawsuit in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

The lawsuit says Lee told store officials she doesn't think she owes the money. Reached by telephone, Lee declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Valentina co-owner Tony Chirchirillo says a $150,000 bill isn't unusual for a client with a full calendar of social events.

A nonbinding mediation session is set for September 16th.

Paula Abdul and newly-added American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi are getting along fine, contrary to rumors. "They are having the time of their life rekindling their friendship," a source told the New York Post. The pair have reportedly been hanging out in their hotel rooms and going to dinner during the long hours of taping. "The American Idol cast was such a boys club, now I have a true sister to share the fun with," Abdul told the Post. "It's been amazing."

Michael Phelps may have a new entourage. The Olympic swimming champion recently filmed a cameo on the hit HBO series, Entourage, and the cast members liked him so much they would love to have him back. According to People.com, actor Jeremy Piven, who plays agent Ari Gold, said, "I could see him coming back as one of the boys." He added, "I can see Ari being very aggressive in recruiting him to represent him and also stopping at nothing to poach him from another client. That's what Ari would do." Jerry Ferrera, who plays Turtle, agreed, adding, "I'm lobbying to get him back next season so that I can be there. He could teach Turtle how to swim."

Phelps's Entourage cameo apparently wasn't planned. Executive producer Doug Ellin said Phelps happened to walk by the set when a scene was being shot. As soon as he was recognized, the guys invited him in. Ellin said, "When he showed up, I'm not exaggerating, city buses stopped and people started yelling and within five minutes we couldn't even shoot."

Phelps plays himself during the episode, which features a scene with actor Kevin Connelly, who explained, "He and I bump into each other on the side of the road, at a crosswalk on 57th and 7th. He bumps into me and looks at me like he's gonna beat me up. It was great. We had actually taken a few takes of the scene, and then we decided we're gonna pop Michael Phelps into the shot."

The new season of Entourage premieres this Sunday (September 7th) on HBO at 10 p.m. ET.

Britney Spears began drinking at age 13, lost her virginity at age 14 and started taking drugs at 15, according to her mother's new memoir, Through the Storm. The 53-year-old goes on to say that she regrets handing over control of Britney's career to managers and allowing her daughter to be promoted as a sex object. In leaked passages reported by the British media, Lynne Spears details that Britney first had sex with her high school boyfriend and, at the age of 16, was caught with cocaine and marijuana on a private jet.

In other news, Lynne Spears's rep denied Wednesday's (September 3rd) report that she had sent a baby gift to Bristol Palin on behalf of her 17-year-old daughter Jamie Lynn.

This Sunday's (September 7th) MTV Video Music Awards will have "lots of virginity and lesbianism going on," according to host Russell Brand. At a press preview at the Paramount Lot, where the show will be held, the British comic was referring to "I Kissed A Girl" singer Katy Perry, who will perform Madonna's hit, "Like A Virgin," as well as the Jonas Brothers, whom Brand called "God's favorite virgins." He noted that the brothers requested that Taylor Swift introduce them, joking that this was "a decision made from below their sexy little waists."

Also performing on Sunday is Christina Aguilera, who joined Brand at the preview and informed the audience that she'll be performing her new single "Keeps Getting Better," the title track of her Best Of album, due out in November. "You're going to get a first look and a first listen at my new image and my new sound," said Aguilera. "The last album, the style and sound was about vintage glam -- this one is all about the future."

T.I. announced that he will be debuting a new song with Rihanna.

Kanye West will be closing the show, which is ironic considering his vow to "never return to MTV" after being shut out of all five categories in which he was nominated last year.

The MTV Video Music Awards will air live at 9 p.m ET.

Although she's the sole Republican voice at the table when co-hosting The View, Elisabeth Hasselbeck found herself among her Republican sisters as she emceed the Women for McCain Victory 2008 luncheon yesterday (September 4th). She began by telling attendees how honored she was to have potential First Lady Cindy McCain on the morning talk show earlier this year, but hinted at quite the opposite regarding the other potential First Lady, Michelle Obama. According to the New York Times, Hasselbeck compared McCain to another wife of a political candidate "who shall remain nameless," saying, "She didn't come with a list of topics that we weren't allowed to touch."

When Hasselbeck introduced Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's husband Todd as the "future first second man," it was only because his preferred moniker of "first dude" was considered inappropriate for the affair.

Michael Moore's upcoming film, Slacker Uprising, will not debut in movie theaters. Instead, the controversial director plans to release it for free online, beginning September 23rd. The documentary chronicles Moore's 62-city tour during the 2004 election to rally young voters. According to the Associated Press, Moore said, "I thought it'd be a nice way to celebrate my 20th year of doing this. And also help get out the vote for November. I've been thinking about what I want to do to help with the election this year."

The move marks the first time a major film is being released online and for free. And by doing so, Moore stands to lose some money. It cost about $2 million to make, and Moore will likely have to pay about $1 million.

Moore's last film, Sicko, raked in $24 million. His Fahrenheit 9/11 documentary earned $119 million.
