GLENN'S BIO

Position
: Nationally Syndicated Radio Host on 540 WFLA and CNN Headline News.
Resumé: Began his career in radio broadcasting at 13 after winning a local DJ contest and wound up with three different jobs at three radio stations in Seattle. Became a successful Top 40 DJ, but by 30, "alcohol and drug addiction took over." He went into recovery and became a Mormon. In January 2000, he moved to Tampa, Florida and landed a gig at WFLA (AM) hosting The Glenn Beck Program, a mix of comedy and conservatism. Within 18 months, the show became No. 1 in that market. He joined CNN Headline News last year. Currently, his radio broadcast is heard on nearly 200 stations and XM Satellite radio. Author of The Real America (Pocket, 2003) and the upcoming An Inconvenient Book (Threshold Editions). Editor-in-chief of Fusion, subtitled "Entertainment & Enlightenment" -- a monthly mix of right-wing editorials, humor, and future obituaries (including a recent entry chronicling the death of Katie Couric's career at CBS and the demise of 44-year-old broadcast itself -- "Katie Couric's career and the CBS Evening News died last week in what investigators are calling a double murder. A suspect, Katie Couric, 50, is being held for the slayings.")
Birthdate: February 10, 1964
Hometown: Mount Vernon, Washington
Education: Courses at Yale for one semester ("No big deal.")
Marital status: Married to second wife Tania, with four children; Mary, 18, Hannah, 16, (both from his first marriage); Raphe, 2, Cheyenne, "about to be one" with his current wife
First section of the Sunday Times: "The front section. I just read it cover to cover."
Favorite television show: "It was 24, but not this season. I think it's jumped the shark. It's probably a tie between House and The Office."
Last book read: "It's by Bob Thomas on Roy E. Disney" (Building A Company, Disney Press)
Guilty pleasure: "'My Grandmother's Chocolate Cake' from Allen Brother's steakhouse. Each piece is 3,000 calories. It's unbelievable."

Based in New York City,  Glenn Beck is casting a tall shadow as the next phenomenon of talk radio. The former Top 40 DJ entered the talk format in 2001 and already his show is broadcast on more than 200 stations nationwide. Millions of listeners are drawn to this modern-day story teller who is armed with a quick wit, an informed opinion, and a unique ability to inspire others to experience their full potential with an open heart. His on-air presence is both commanding and inviting – a trait he has been refining for the last 27 years.

Glenn started in radio when he was only 13 years old by winning a local radio contest to be a DJ for an hour. Soon after that auspicious day, Glenn had three jobs:   one at a Christian station, a Rock station, and a Country station, all of which his parents had to schlep him to in their home state of Washington. He was fired from all three jobs, on the same day when he was 14 years old!
After high school graduation, Glenn pursued his career as a Top 40 DJ at stations all over the country. Eventually, he landed an opportunity in Corpus Christi, Texas, as the youngest morning guy in the U.S. at 18 years old. His career was soaring and took him to Top 40 morning shows in Baltimore, Houston, Phoenix, Washington, and New Haven, Conn. He rode the wave of professional success into the 1990s when things began to change. Today, Glenn points out, when you have that kind of success that early in life, it's easy for you to turn into a monster. And I did!   I was not a good guy.
At the age of 30, Glenn lost his passion for radio, and everything else, as alcoholism and drug addiction took him over. Struggling to find some answers to his problem, Glenn pursued higher education. Though he was accepted by Yale as a Theology major, he lasted only one semester, faced with a divorce from his first wife and separation from his two daughters,  the oldest with Cerebral Palsy. He was emotionally and financially decimated and relegated to one of the smallest radio markets. The shooting radio star had fallen to earth. Finally, he turned to a program of recovery.
Coming to terms with his past and staying sober shifted his life direction. He found a new love (his second wife, Tania), religion (he was baptized Mormon in 2000), and a new vision of his career,  he would pursue talk radio.
Soon after his baptism, Glenn received a call from an agent who was interested in representing him. Days later, he had an offer to host his own talk radio show on WFLA-AM in Tampa, forcing him to move away from his daughters in New Haven. He and Tania decided to live in Tampa for two years and then, whether Glenn succeeded or failed, they would eventually move closer to his girls.
He inherited the 18th placed position at WFLA-AM and took it to the #1 position in his first year, giving the station its highest ratings ever. Within 18 months, Premiere Radio Networks, the leading radio syndication company in the country, offered Glenn the opportunity to go national. In January 2002, The Glenn Beck Program launched on 47 stations. Glenn has aired on 540 WFLA, Orlando since 9/11.
He also kept his promise to his daughters. The Glenn Beck Program, is now based in NYC and airs weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon.  Glenn Beck's Weekend Show airs Sunday 6p to 9p on 540 WFLA.  Nationally, GB is now ranked as the 3rd most listened to talk show in America among Adults 25-54.
Executive Producer/Head Writer Stu
Steve aka Stu was born in Tarrytown, NY on February 9, 1976. He discovered his love of radio at an early age; and by age five he was syndicated in the kitchen and den. He then became completely non-productive for several years, slacking his way through high school, and forgoing college.
Fortunately, Stu got back on track in 1997. He began working in radio promotions and finally began interning for The Glenn Beck Morning Show in 1998. It was here that the beautiful friendship was forged, and neither Glenn nor Stu would ever be the same.
Later that year, Stu became the producer of both the morning show and Glenn's first ever talk show, a venture that the creative brain trust of Beck and Burguiere aptly dubbed "The Glenn Beck Show." That was pulled off the air after approximately nineteen glorious seconds.
As an executive producer, Stu was responsible for coming up with new and exciting venues for the host, including: "Cigar Talk: The Impeachment of Character" (all Clinton scandal all the time) and "The Journey" (all sobbing all the time). Sadly, Stu cannot take credit for Glenn's other successful show, "Glenn Beck, Your Home, and You" which featured Glenn explaining easy and beautiful home improvement projects for the do-it-yourself-er, involving only spare clothes hangers, padded toilet seats, rainbow glitter, and excess pet hair.
Stu worked with Glenn locally on WABC in New York, on WELI in New Haven (a current Glenn Beck Program affiliate), on the nationally syndicated show "The Weekend," (on 540 WFLA Sundays 6p-9p).
Somewhere in there, Stu needed a little (big) break from Glenn, and decided to take over hosting duties when Glenn left his morning show in Connecticut.
As to why Stu left his stint in Connecticut, details become sketchy. Some suggest that Glenn blackmailed Stu with "secret evidence" in order to bring him back to the world of talk radio; the more cynical believe that Stu simply sucked so much as a morning jock that he begged Glenn for his old job back. Still a third group argues that Stu is just waiting for the opportune time to "mistakenly" disconnect Glenn's brakes and secure his spot as host of the show.
But for now, Stu slaves away as the Executive Producer/Head Writer/Sidekick/Dry Cleaning Picker Upper of the Glenn Beck Program. He lives in the Philadelphia area, loves really crappy food, and is married (sorry fellas!!!)
You can reach Stu at stu@glennbeck.com or telepathically at mind number 1153315655487131-B.  Additional information on Stu can be found here...

Vote San Fran out
The latest craziness from the wacky left in San Francisco is that they are sending drug-dealing illegal aliens on a free trip home. Normally Glenn would be for that---however, the fine folks of San Fran are doing it so the dirt-bags can avoid prosecution. Glenn moves to vote San Francisco out of the union. Where did it all go wrong for San Francisco---when did they lose their minds?

Coming for your guns
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the police department crossed a line that should have never been crossed. They decided to go around the city and confiscate any weapons---legal or illegal. This is the amazing video that shows some actual police footage of authorities literally taking away innocent, law abiding citizens weapons away by force.

Gas for Plasma's
In Glenn's latest CNN column he seeks to increase your frustration level with the skyrocketing gas prices by letting you know just how many plasma's you are missing out on by shelling out extra cash for gas money.
Check it out.

Cancel the 4th?

It's sad enough to see that people in Hollywood hate America and can only point out the negatives in America's past. Even sadder was the columnist op-ed that declared the fourth of July 'A not-so-glorious Fourth' and bashed America relentlessly---but the worst part is it ran in (of all places) the Philadelphia Inquirer.

God Bless America
Frustrated with the focus of national conversation (by politicians) being so far off from what regular people are talking about---Glenn remembers back to 9/11 when all of the 'antichrist' politicians from both sides of the aisle came together and united our country. It didn't last long, but it was 'amazing', watching them stand side by side singing God Bless America. Where has that feeling gone and how do we get it back?
Glenn explains.

Women causing rape?
Glenn has instructed the dead man walking, best selling author Brad Thor, to call in from time to time just to let Glenn know he is alive. Brad called in today and reported a story coming out of Egypt where a picture is being used to promote the use of the hijab and niqab by Egyptian women.
Here is the picture---and Brad explaining to Glenn what it all means. Read the transcript.

Inaction in action
Glenn put together this look back at what our politicians have said since Jimmy Carter proclaimed, in 1977, that we would never increase our dependence on foreign oil. We've all seen how that worked out. If you are hoping for politicians to act differently this time around---don't hold your breath. The consistency of rhetoric is simply astounding in this incredible (and incredibly depressing) montage.

Taking guns
For those of you looking for the video from the NRA that has interviews with people from New Orleans who had their weapons confiscated by police in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, stay tuned to tomorrow's email newsletter, which will have the full video.

Worst voicemail ever

Yes, ranking right up there with Alec Baldwin's rant calling his 12 year old daughter a 'thoughtless little pig' or Charlie Sheen's message calling Denise Richards the 'n' word voicemails, is
this fantastic phone message from 'Dmitri' who met a woman in San Francisco and was able to get her number. Dmitri, surprisingly, is single---despite the fact that he is 'working on a movie script' and has 'nothing wrong with him'. Psychotic, hilarious, and scary all at the same time---this voicemail proves once and for all that you never give a stranger on the street your number who would talk longer but 'had to get heck out of the area'. Read the transcript.

America's soundtrack
Glenn just couldn't talk about Obama's socialist policies today---he just couldn't do it. He's trying to enjoy the already agonizingly high taxes before President Obama implements the highest tax raise in world history. Glenn claims the decline of America can be traced back to our musical tendencies.

'This is where -- this is where, when we were in our cars and we turned on the radio, we should have known Jesus is coming soon, within -- when did this come out?'--Glenn commenting on 'The Macarena'.

Stu and Glenn debate where the decline began---Stu's first example does not help strengthen his case.

Reid: 'Oil makes us sick'
Harry Reid, the clairvoyant nimrod Senator from Nevada who declared the Iraq war 'lost' before the surge even started, is saying amazingly stupid things again. This time, he proclaims that 'coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick'. Apparently demonizing oil is part of Reid's plan to lower gas prices, as he promised Democrats would do when they were elected in 2006. That worked out well.

Glenn's ouchie
Glenn was showing off his disgusting bruise for the Insiders on the webcam today, and for some morbid reason the clip of this video is making an appearance in this newsletter. Why anyone would want to see an elephant with a boo-boo? It's kind of like looking at a really bad car accident or a beheading video---you don't really want to look, but do so anyway...so here it is (you sick, twisted, weirdo).
